A 24-year-old man experiencing a mental health crisis was detained after trying to climb a radio tower at the McHenry County Government Center in Woodstock.
A McHenry County sheriff’s deputy observed a man scaling the fence to a McHenry County Emergency Management Agency radio tower around 12:44 p.m. Thursday.
Additional members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 2200 North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock.
The deputies established contact with the man after a few minutes and were able to talk him into climbing down from the tower.
Once the 24-year-old Harvard man got down to the ground, he attempted to run away from the deputies.
Deputies chased after the man and detained him. The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to the scene.
Paramedics evaluated the man and transported him to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.
No charges have been filed as it is believed the man was suffering from a mental health crisis, the sheriff’s office said.
