A father and his son have been awarded by the Waukegan Fire Department for helping save their neighbors from a house fire.
The Waukegan Fire Department said that Jimmy and Gregorio Lopez were awarded the Waukegan Proud Award on Tuesday.
Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham, 5th Ward Alderman Edith Newsome, and Waukegan Fire Chief George Bridges presented the award to the two.
Officials said that Jimmy saw flames across the street from his home and, with the help of his father, grabbed five-gallon buckets of water to put out the fire.
The two also ran to the front of the home to alert the residents.
“This was a close call that could easily have gone much worse had Jimmy not noticed the fire and taken action,” the Waukegan Fire Department said.
