A Spring Grove woman was charged with driving under the influence after she rolled her car over, causing herself serious injuries Tuesday near Antioch.

Ashley E. Torres, 36, of the 27900 block of West Rowe Ave in unincorporated Spring Grove, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department responded around 4 p.m. Tuesday to Grass Lake Road and Stonegate Drive in unincorporated Antioch for a rollover crash with injuries.

The driver to the vehicle, identified as Torres, asked arriving sheriff’s deputies to find her 4-year-old child who she said was with her.

“Fearing the child was ejected [from the vehicle], sheriff’s deputies and Good Samaritan’s immediately formed a line and began searching for a possible ejected child,” Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

The child was not located and sheriff’s deputies were able to confirm the child was safe with the child’s father, Covelli said. The child had never been in the car with Torres.

A preliminary investigation shows Torres was traveling westbound on Grass Lake Road when she failed to properly navigate a curve in the roadway.

Her vehicle went into an embankment and rolled over. Torres sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Sheriff’s determined she had been driving under the influence of alcohol. She is scheduled to appear in court on August 26.

“She will survive – but others are often not so lucky. Don’t risk lives, if intoxicated, don’t get behind the wheel of a car! #DriveSoberOrGetPulledOver,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
