A woman was reportedly pushed off her bicycle by a man who tackled and tried raping her in Lyons Woods Forest Preserve near Waukegan.

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on July 19 while the woman was riding her bike in the forest preserve.

The suspect reportedly pushed her off the bike before he tackled her and attempted to take her pants off, according to information sent to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

The woman was able to fight the attacker off and run away until she saw another forest preserve patron. The suspect took her black Cannondale bicycle and iPhone.

The victim sustained a dislocated shoulder and numerous scratches and bruises. She received medical attention.

It was reported that the suspect was a male Black in his 20s, medium build, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, wearing a teal t-shirt and baggy pants. He fled towards Sheridan Road.

Lake County Forest Preserve Public Safety Director John Tannahill confirmed that Ranger Police responded to a strong-arm robbery on the trail.

Tannahill refused to confirm whether police were aware of the attempted sexual assault part of the attack. He said that investigators are following up on the incident.
