
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who pushed a woman off her bike, tried raping her and then robbed her in Lyons Woods Forest Preserve near Waukegan.
The Lake County Forest Preserve Ranger Police released the sketch of the suspect after Lake and McHenry County Scanner first reported on the story Monday afternoon.
The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on July 19 while a woman was riding her bike in the forest preserve.
The suspect reportedly pushed her off the bike, tackled her and attempted to take her pants off, according to information sent to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The woman was able to fight the attacker off and run away until she saw another forest preserve patron. The suspect took her black Cannondale Quick 5 bicycle and iPhone.
The victim sustained a dislocated shoulder and numerous scratches and bruises. She received medical attention.
It was reported that the suspect was a male Black in his 20s, medium build, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, wearing a teal t-shirt and baggy pants. He fled towards Sheridan Road.
Lake County Forest Preserve Public Safety Director John Tannahill confirmed that Ranger Police responded to a strong-arm robbery on the trail.
Tannahill said that investigators have collected evidence in the case and are searching for the suspect.
