A Lakemoor man has been charged with raping a female employee who was working alone at a bicycle shop in Fox Lake last month, police said.
Allan Cooper, 23, of Lakemoor, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony.
Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the assault occurred in the afternoon on June 19.
Cooper allegedly entered the Link O’ Chain Cyclery, 11 East Grand Avenue, and had a brief conversation with a female employee who was working alone.
Cooper gave the woman a false name during the conversation in an attempt to act like he knew the woman, Lee said.
The man allegedly then led the victim to an interior rear area of the building where he sexually assaulted her by force, Lee said.
Cooper fled the scene and the victim reported the assault to police.
An investigation was conducted by Fox Lake Police Department detectives, who identified Cooper, and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against the man on Wednesday.
He was taken into custody on Thursday at his residence on Neptune Cove in Lakemoor by the Fox Lake Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
A judge set Cooper’s bond at $500,000 and he remains held in the Lake County jail. He will appear in court on August 4.
