Pedro Bautista, 36, of McHenry.

A McHenry man was sentenced to nine years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge of attempted sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.

Pedro Bautista, 36, of the 3700 block of West Waukegan Road in McHenry, was indicted on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.

A bill of indictment charging Bautista in September alleged that he sexually penetrated a 9-year-old girl with his fingers in August 2019.

Prosecutors let Bautista plead guilty to a reduced charge of attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class 1 felony. His other charges were dismissed.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge sentenced Bautista on Wednesday to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Bautista will have to register as a sex offender for his natural life after he is released from prison.
