A Lake County sheriff’s deputy who was called early Tuesday morning to a burglar alarm at a Deer Park home did not find a burglar but instead a fire.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded around 12:13 a.m. Tuesday to the 20400 block of Joshua Court in Deer Park for a report of a structure fire.
Lake Zurich Fire Chief John Malcolm said that the first fire engine arrived within five minutes of the call.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy discovered the fire during the investigation of a burglar alarm at the home and immediately notified the fire department, Malcolm said.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and were able to bring the fire under control within minutes.
The fire was contained to the basement and the residence sustained fire, smoke and water damage.
Damage to the home is estimated to be approximately $200,000. Firefighters were able to save an estimated $500,000 in property and contents.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and no injuries were reported, Malcolm said.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department was assisted by Barrington, Barrington-Countryside, Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Elk Grove Township, Lake Forest, Long Grove, Mundelein and Wauconda fire departments.
