One person was critically injured and flown to the hospital after a box truck rolled over on top of a sedan in Crystal Lake Tuesday.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department responded around 9:39 a.m. Tuesday to Three Oaks Road and Route 31 for a vehicle crash with injuries.
An Empire Cooler Service box truck rolled over onto a Chevrolet Impala in the middle of the intersection.
The driver of the Chevrolet was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by firefighters.
Paramedics transported the driver by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. A LifeNet medical helicopter then flew the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition.
The man driving the box truck was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
The Crystal Lake Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to handle the investigation.
Southbound lanes remained closed as of 12 p.m. and westbound and eastbound lanes were both blocked.
Northbound lanes of Route 31 were down to one lane and redirected to eastbound Three Oaks Road.
It is unknown when the roadway will be reopened.
