The Lake County sheriff’s deputy who suffered serious injuries during a crash while responding to a call in Beach Park has been released from the hospital.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 9:42 p.m. Saturday of a person armed with a knife trying to break into a home in the 13400 block of Victoria Lane in Beach Park.

One of the sheriff’s deputies responding to the call was traveling westbound on Wadsworth Road, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

The sheriff’s deputy’s squad car, which had its emergency lights activated, collided with a southbound Nissan Rogue, driven by a 28-year-old woman, in the intersection of Wadsworth Road and Green Bay Road in Beach Park.

The collision caused the Nissan to strike an eastbound Honda Civic, driven by a 19-year-old woman, Covelli said.

The sheriff’s deputy and the driver of the Nissan were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of Honda and its passenger, a 13-year-old girl, did not appear to have any injuries.

On Sunday, the sheriff’s deputy was discharged from Advocate Condell Medical Center. The 28-year-old woman, whose condition has stabilized, remained in the hospital on Monday.

Covelli said the Lake County Sheriff’s Office requested the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) to respond and conduct an independent investigation.

A juvenile was taken into custody during the original call that the deputy was responding to and charges are pending against them.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing by the Major Crash Assistance Team.
