Andrew J Jacobs, 31, of Algonquin.

A 31-year-old man was arrested after police say he broke into an Algonquin home and stole a vintage war banner.

Andrew J Jacobs, 31, of the 1-99 block of Madison Street in Algonquin, was charged with one count of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court alleges that Jacobs broke into a home in the 700 block of Vista Drive South in Algonquin on August 13.

He allegedly stole a vintage war banner belonging to one of the residents, the complaint said.

Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Ryan Markham said that Jacobs had a previous dating relationship with the victim.

He reportedly entered the garage of the residence through a partially open garage door, Markham said.

Jacobs fled the scene before police arrived and an arrest warrant was issued for him the same day. He was taken into custody on Sunday.
