Two dogs died after being rescued by firefighters from a garage fire at a home in Lake in the Hills early Saturday morning.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 1:48 a.m. Saturday to the 500 block of Seminole Trail in the Lake in the Hills for a structure fire.

Battalion Chief Eric Busby said that first arriving firefighters arrived in six minutes. They found a detached garage of a single-family home with heavy smoke showing from the front.

The homeowner told authorities that two dogs were in the garage and firefighters entered the structure.

A search for the pets and an aggressive offensive attack on the fire was conducted, Busby said.

The fire was brought under control and two dogs were located inside the garage. Resuscitative efforts were initiated but unsuccessful.

The occupants of the home were alerted of the fire and evacuated prior to the fire department arriving. No firefighters or civilians were injured.
