A McHenry man has been charged with drug-induced homicide in the heroin overdose death of a 32-year-old man in May.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force arrested Stanley J. Rzepka, 29, of McHenry, on Thursday.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was called on May 31 to a residence in the 2500 block of Birchwood Avenue in unincorporated McHenry for a death investigation of a 32-year-old man.
The scene was turned over to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Police Narcotics Task Force.
A three-month investigation was launched where detectives worked closely with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office to collect evidence, sheriff’s officials said.
During the investigation, detectives found evidence indicating that the man had used heroin prior to his death.
As a result, a drug-induced homicide arrest warrant was issued for Rzepka.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office detectives along with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Rzepka as he was leaving the McHenry County Courthouse on another matter on Thursday.
He was transported to the McHenry County jail and charged with drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
Rzepka is being held on a $500,000 bond and will appear in court on September 1.
