Police are searching for a vehicle that caused a motorcycle to crash, causing serious injuries to the motorcyclist Saturday evening in Crystal Lake.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 9:14 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Crystal Lake Avenue and Pingree Road for a vehicle crash.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers said that a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Crystal Lake Avenue and had a green light.

An unknown vehicle traveling westbound on Crystal Lake Avenue failed to yield to the motorcycle and turned southbound onto Pingree Road in front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle laid the bike down to avoid hitting the vehicle so there was no contact between the two vehicles, Rogers said. The unknown vehicle continued southbound on Pingree Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 58-year-old Fox River Grove man, was transported by Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue Department to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and he was the only rider on the motorcycle, Rogers said.

Witnesses at the scene were not able to provide any description of the vehicle that turned in front of the motorcycle.
