Police are searching for a masked man that was armed with a knife and robbed a gas station in Johnsburg Saturday evening.

The Johnsburg Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the Marathon gas station, 3514 North Richmond Road, for an armed robbery.

Johnsburg Police Chief Keith Von Allmen told the Northwest Herald that a man threatened the clerk with a knife and told him to hand over cash from the register.

The suspect, described as a young male Black dressed in all black and wearing a face covering, fled the scene after taking over $200 in cash from the register.

The suspect ran southwest from the scene on foot and Von Allmen is asking the public to notify police if they witnessed anything.

The Northwest Herald reported that officers requested a canine unit but canceled the request after learning that the closest one available was in Wisconsin.

Officers recovered physical evidence at the scene that is being tested for DNA evidence, Von Allmen said.
