A Lake County sheriff’s canine unit located a missing and endangered 18-year-old in Tower Lakes Saturday evening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:30 p.m. to assist the Tower Lakes Police Department in a search for a missing person.

Matthew Benkler, 18, who lives in the area of Kelsey Road and Route 59, went missing around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said that Benkler, who is non-verbal and requires adult supervision, was last seen on his scooter.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Somerville and his canine partner Diesel were called to assist other officers with the search.

Canine Diesel began tracking right away to a nearby school a few blocks away.

Benkler was located safely by Diesel and several other sheriff’s deputy, and reunited with his family.
