A Chicago man has been arrested and charged with shooting and killing a 51-year-old Waukegan man in the victim’s front yard in 2018.

An arrest warrant was issued for Donyelle Roberts, 43, of Chicago, in December 2018 for first-degree murder.

Roberts was taken into custody in Racine, Wisconsin on Wednesday by U.S. Marshals and local police.

Roberts was wanted for the fatal shooting of Terrance Shelton, 51, of Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 9:30 p.m. on September 19, 2018, to the first block of North Jackson Street, which is just north of Washington Street.

Police officers found a man, identified as Shelton, who had been shot in the front yard of a home. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division investigated the incident and identified Roberts as the shooter.

The motive of the shooting has not been released.

Roberts remains held in the Racine County, Wisconsin jail awaiting extradition to Illinois. The bond on his warrant is $3 million, police said.
