A 48-year-old man riding on a bicycle was critically injured after being struck by a car near Libertyville Friday afternoon.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 1:07 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 137 and Saint Mary’s Road in Libertyville Township for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a car that had struck a bicycle, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Francis Foy.

A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle, driven by a 48-year-old Round Lake Beach man, was traveling westbound on Buckley Road.

The vehicle struck the bicyclist, identified as a 48-year-old Lincolnshire man, as he was riding westbound along the curb.

The bicyclist was wearing a helmet and sustained critical injuries, Foy said.

An ambulance transported the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The driver of the vehicle, who was uninjured, is cooperating with investigators.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
