An 83-year-old man was killed and a 75-year-old man was seriously injured after their truck rolled over when a Hummer crashed into it near Marengo Thursday afternoon.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Fire Protection District responded around 2:18 p.m. Thursday to the area of River Road and Thorne Road in unincorporated Marengo.

Sheriff’s deputies found a 2007 Hummer H3 and a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck involved in the crash.

An investigation showed that the Dodge, driven by a 75-year-old Garden Prairie man, was traveling eastbound on River Road approaching Thorne Road.

The Hummer, driven by a 22-year-old Capron man, was traveling northbound on Thorne Road about to turn westbound onto River Road.

The 22-year-old driving the Hummer failed to yield to the Dodge at the stop sign and pulled out in front of it, causing a collision, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The Dodge overturned into the ditch on the north side of the roadway. The passenger of the Dodge, an 83-year-old Garden Prairie man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 75-year-old driving the Dodge was flown by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford.

The driver of the Hummer did not sustain any injuries.

The investigation continues by the McHenry County Sheriffโ€™s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coronerโ€™s Office.
