A 60-year-old man who crashed his motorcycle in Crystal Lake Saturday evening suffered serious injuries and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 5:29 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Fair Oaks Lane and Elmwood Avenue.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 1994 Honda motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Fair Oaks Lane.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said that the driver of the motorcycle lost control and the motorcycle fell onto its side.

The driver, identified as Lothar Wagner, 60, of Crystal Lake, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry by ambulance.

Wagner was immediately transferred by a medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Kotlowski said.

Investigators determined Wagner had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and charged him with one count of DUI, a Class A misdemeanor.
