Two suspects were shot and killed by residents of a home during an attempted home invasion in Waukegan Tuesday morning, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 10 a.m. to the 100 block of North Frolic Avenue for a report of a burglary in progress call.
The 911 caller, who was an occupant of the single-family home, told dispatchers that at least one of the two suspects had a gun.
Officers arrived and found two males lying in the front yard with gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Waukegan Police Department Commander Joe Florip said that the department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was called to investigate due to the severity of the incident.
Investigators believe that the two male suspects attempted to force their way into the home.
Gunshots were exchanged between the occupants of the home and the suspects as the two men tried to enter the home.
Police officials are expected to hold a media briefing soon. Detectives remain on the scene and more information is expected to be released in the coming hours.
