A 74-year-old Fox Lake woman was killed and her husband is in grave condition following a serious three-vehicle crash in Green Oaks on Friday.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 4:45 p.m. Friday to Route 137 at Interstate 94 for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and determined two cars and a motorcycle were involved in the crash.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2019 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by a 76-year-old Fox Lake man, was traveling eastbound on Route 137.

The driver of the Chevrolet attempted a U-turn or attempted to turn left onto I-94, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

A 2007 Ford Five Hundred sedan, driven by a 63-year-old Libertyville woman, was traveling westbound on Route 137.

The front of the Ford struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet. A 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 32-year-old Wauconda man, was directly behind the Ford.

“To avoid an impact with a vehicle, the motorcycle operator dropped his motorcycle and slid on the ground,” Covelli said.

The front-seat passenger in the Chevrolet, a 74-year-old Fox Lake woman, sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries.

The driver of the Ford was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries. The driver of the Harley-Davidson was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is in the process of scheduling an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
