A 20-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to the hospital following a motorcycle crash near Harvard Saturday evening, police said.

The Harvard Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:38 p.m. Saturday to the 7200 block of Oak Grove Road in unincorporated Harvard near Chemung Township.

Deputies arrived and found a one-vehicle crash involving a 2008 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the Harley-Davidson was traveling northbound on Oak Grove Road from Ramer Road.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that the motorcycle, for unknown reasons, traveled off the roadway into the ditch along the west side of the road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 20-year-old Hebron man, was flown by a medical helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford with serious injuries.

The passenger, a 21-year-old McHenry woman, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley with minor injuries.

The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but the passenger was wearing hers, police said.

The roadway was closed for several hours Saturday evening.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
