A woman is recovering after she was allegedly beaten and sexually assaulted by a Third Lake man, sheriff’s officials said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded on September 19 to a report of a female victim who had been sexually assaulted.
Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that the victim told deputies that Andres Leyva, 29, had sexually assaulted her.
During the assault, Leyva also reportedly physically battered the woman, Covelli said. The incident occurred at a residence in Third Lake.
Covelli said that the victim received medical treatment for the attack and sexual assault and is now recovering.
Sheriff’s detectives responded to the scene and collected evidence of the sexual assault. They learned that Leyva is an acquaintance of the victim.
Leyva, of the 200 block of Windjammer Lane in Third Lake, was taken into custody that same day.
The sheriff’s office reviewed the facts and circumstances of the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors approved charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, and criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.
Leyva remains held in the Lake County jail on a $300,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 14.
