A 60-year-old Mundelein man died after a vehicle struck him while he was riding his bicycle in Libertyville early Sunday morning.

The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 3:25 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 176 and Stritch Drive for a report of a vehicle crash.

Officers arrived and found a bicyclist in the roadway and a vehicle that had struck the bike east of the intersection.

The bicyclist was alert and conscious at the scene and paramedics treated him. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Doctors later pronounced the man deceased and crash investigators were called to the scene.

This incident is currently being investigated by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, Libertyville Police Department and Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Police did not release any additional details regarding the crash. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday on the man, who was 60 years old and a Mundelein resident.
