Police are asking for the public’s help in providing surveillance footage after a teen was shot during an altercation in Gurnee Monday evening.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 5:50 p.m. Monday to the area of Dilleys Road and Nations Drive for a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers responded and located a juvenile male with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor.

The Gurnee Fire Department provided medical treatment and paramedics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, Gaylor said.

A preliminary investigation shows the teen had a pre-arranged meeting with people he knew in a parking lot near the intersection of Stearns School Road and Dilleys Road.

Gaylor said an altercation began and the acquaintances fired shots at the victim, striking him in the leg. The victim drove a few blocks away from the scene before calling the police for assistance.

Gurnee police officers searched the area and conducted a track with canine Hunter.

The offenders left the scene before police arrived and the incident appears to be an isolated occurrence, Gaylor said.

Investigators are actively working the case and any residents or businesses in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras are asked to contact the Gurnee Police Department at 847-599-7000.
