A driver was charged with driving under the influence after his passenger was flown to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash in Crystal Lake early Monday morning.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Police Department responded around 1:45 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Route 14 and Sands Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers found a single vehicle that had crashed into a pole, according to Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski.
A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle left the roadway while traveling eastbound on Route 14.
It then struck a traffic control pole on the southeast corner of the intersection. The driver, identified as Jasmine Ortiz, 25, of Palatine, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
An adult passenger in the vehicle also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and both of them were transported by ambulances to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
The passenger was later flown by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for additional treatment.
Ortiz was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, a Class A misdemeanor, Kotlowski said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.
