A garage fully engulfed in flames spread to the attached residence and an adjacent home in Libertyville Tuesday afternoon, prompting over 15 fire departments to respond.

The Libertyville Fire Department responded around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of Briar Place in Libertyville for a report of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived and found a fully engulfed garage fire that was spreading to the attached residence.

The fire also caused damage to the neighboring adjacent home but that was extinguished quickly, Libertyville Deputy Fire Chief Michael Pakosta said.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.

Pakosta said that personnel and equipment from over 15 fire departments responded to the scene and to assist with covering calls in Libertyville.

The fire was declared out approximately an hour into the incident, Pakosta said.

The fire remains under investigation and a cause was not immediately released. A damage estimate was not available.

Firefighters from Countryside, Mundelein Grayslake, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Gurnee, Lincolnshire, Round Lake, Great Lakes, Long Grove, Deerfield and Highland Park assisted at the scene.
