A 28-year-old man who stole two wrench sets worth $5,000 from a store in Woodstock was sentenced to five years in prison.

Richard J. Long, 28, of the 5600 block of Stateline Road in South Beloit, pleaded guilty to one count of retail theft over $300, a Class 3 felony.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge approved the negotiated plea deal on Wednesday and sentenced Long to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Prosecutors said that Long stole two wrench sets worth over $5,000 total from Blain’s Farm and Fleet, 11501 Route 14 in Woodstock.

The incident happened on December 3, 2019 and Long was identified following an investigation by the Woodstock Police Department.

Long will also have to pay $5,098 in restitution and $624 in court fines and fees, court records show.

His sentence will be served concurrently with a sentence arising out of Kane County for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

The case was investigated by members of the Woodstock Police Department and prosecuted by Robert Ladd of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
