Police are searching for two suspects, one armed with a gun, who carjacked, robbed and battered a person in the parking lot of Jewel-Osco in Libertyville Sunday evening.

The Libertyville Police Department responded around 11:29 p.m. Sunday to the Jewel-Osco, 1300 South Milwaukee Avenue, for a report of a vehicular hijacking.

The victim told police that two male suspects exited a black Volkswagen and approached the victim, according to Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze.

One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys and cell phone.

The victim complied and gave the car keys and cell phone. One of the suspects then struck the victim in the head and both of them fled the scene, Goze said.

One of the suspects drove away in the victim’s vehicle, described as a silver Mercedes SL-500 with a black hood, roof, and trunk, and the other in the black Volkswagen.

The victim was treated by Libertyville Fire Department paramedics and released at the scene, Goze said. The incident remains under investigation.
