Two teens were shot and a third person was injured following a shooting that left a Mercedes sedan with bullet holes in Waukegan Saturday evening.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 9:50 p.m. Saturday to the 300 block of South Genesee Street for a report of shots fired.

Officers located a black Mercedes sedan that was unoccupied and had bullet holes in it, according to Waukegan Police Cmdr. Edgar Navarro.

Officers also located two victims in the area with gunshot wounds. A third victim was also located with an injury to his leg area.

Navarro said the first victim is a 16-year-old Waukegan boy and the second gunshot victim is an 18-year-old Waukegan man.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The third victim, a 22-year-old North Chicago man, was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his. Police say they do not believe he was shot.

Officers recovered a semi-automatic pistol in the area but it is unclear if it played a role in the incident.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is investigating the shooting.

Navarro said the investigation is considered open and active, and the motive of the shooting is unknown. No suspects are in custody.
