Police are searching for a man who committed a daytime armed robbery at a jewelry store in Libertyville and got away with merchandise valued at approximately $150,000.

The Libertyville Police Department responded around 11:24 a.m. Friday to Rolland’s Jewelers, 500 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, for a report of a robbery.

Employees told officers that a man entered the business and looked at jewelry for approximately 30 minutes, Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze said.

The man then showed the employee a note which implied he had a gun. He took the items that he was looking at and left the business, Goze said.

The jewelry is valued at approximately $150,000. The suspect exited Rolland’s Jewelers, fled westbound on Cook Avenue and got into a black four-door vehicle.

The vehicle was last seen driving south on Brainerd Avenue from Cook Avenue.

The suspect is described as a male white or Hispanic in his late 20s or early 30s. He was approximately 6-feet tall, 200 pounds and had black hair.

The man was last seen wearing a white and gray baseball hat, blue hooded sweatshirt with a white t-shirt under it, blue jeans and tan or brown boots.

Goze said that Libertyville Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene to evaluate the employee, who was checked and released at the scene. No injuries were reported.

The robbery is still under investigation and anyone who has information is asked to call the Libertyville Police Department’s non-emergency number at 847-362-8310.
