Trains have resumed after a Metra train crew spotted a body near the tracks in Lake Forest Wednesday morning.

The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday to Franklin Place East and North Western Avenue.

The crew of Metra train 315 on Metra’s Union Pacific North line reported seeing a body on the west side of the tracks, according to a Metra spokesperson.

UP-North trains in both directions were halted while the Lake Forest Police Department and Metra Police Department responded to investigate.

Authorities said that the body appeared to have been struck by a previous train, however, it was too early to confirm.

Police at the scene were using a drone to assist with the investigation.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and will be scheduling an autopsy on the person.

Train service resumed around 11:15 a.m. and Metra said that inbound and outbound UP-North trains may be operating 15-30 minutes behind schedule due to the incident.
