A Zion man was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a teenager who was on a bike path in Waukegan last week, police said.

Regjae McMullen, 25, of Zion, was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault by force, a Class 1 felony.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 11 a.m. November 5 to the 2900 block of North Lewis Avenue in Waukegan for a report of a sexual assault.

Officers learned a woman, who is in her late teens, was sexually assaulted on a bike path between the 2900 block of North McAree Avenue and the 2900 block of North Lewis Avenue, which is near Bevier Park.

Officers spoke to the victim and requested the Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigate based on the seriousness of the incident.

Waukegan Police Cmdr. Edgar Navarro said detectives were able to identify the suspect as McMullen through their investigation.

McMullen was located on Tuesday in the same area where the assault took place — the 2900 block of North Lewis Avenue. Detectives arrested him without incident.

Navarro said the police department was not releasing any additional details surrounding the attack.

McMullen was ordered held in the Lake County jail on a $350,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 2.
