Authorities have identified the 62-year-old victim who was struck and killed by a pickup truck that fled the scene in Lake Forest last week.
An autopsy indicated that Stephen Kennedy, 62, of Lake Forest, died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper.
โWe have been in close contact with Mr. Kennedyโs family and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy,โ Cooper said.
The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 10:47 a.m. Thursday to 500 block of North Mayflower Road for a report of a vehicle crash.
Officers found a pedestrian, later identified as Kennedy, who had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of North Mayflower Road and Rosemary Road.
The suspect vehicle, identified as a white two-door Ford F-150 pickup truck, fled the scene southbound on Mayflower Road.
Lake Forest Police Department Sgt. Kevin Zelk said that Kennedy died at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville as a result of his injuries.
The truck’s passenger-side mirror fell off during the impact and landed on the grass alongside the road, Zelk said.
“We are asking for the public’s help in locating the offending truck and driver,” police said.
Officers obtained photos from a residential surveillance camera that show the truck near the scene of the crime.
Anyone with information about the truck or its driver is asked to contact Lake Forest Police Department Detective Mark Long at 847-810-3964 or email him at [email protected].
