Authorities have identified a 68-year-old man who was killed after he drove his car into the opposite lanes of traffic, striking two cars, one of them head-on, in Round Lake Beach last week.
An autopsy showed that James Bobo, 68, of Lindenhurst, died of multiple blunt force injuries from a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 5:58 a.m. November 16 to the 1400 block of Cedar Lake Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne Wilde said that officers located a three-vehicle crash involving a 2006 Honda Odyssey, 2020 Kia Sportage, and 2008 Ford F-150.
A preliminary investigation determined that the Kia, driven by Bobo, was traveling southbound on Cedar Lake Road near Highland Terrace.
The Kia drifted into the northbound lanes, struck the Honda, and then crashed head-on into the Ford truck.
Bobo was pronounced dead at the scene. Toxicology results are pending.
One of the occupants in the Honda was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor injuries.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department continues to investigate the crash with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
