Authorities have identified a 76-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle as he tried to cross the street to his driveway in Beach Park last week.
An autopsy showed that Michael Templeton, 76, of Beach Park, died of blunt force injuries from being struck by a vehicle, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department responded around 7 p.m. November 18 to the area of Green Bay Road and Waldo Avenue for a report of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.
Deputies arrived and found the victim, identified as Templeton, unconscious north of the intersection.
Templeton had significant injuries as a result of the crash, Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.
Paramedics arrived soon after the first-responding sheriff’s deputies and transported the man to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
A preliminary investigation shows a 2003 Cadillac Seville, driven by a 23-year-old Beach Park woman, was traveling northbound on Green Bay Road just north of Waldo Avenue.
According to witnesses, Templeton was attempting to cross the street from the west side of the roadway to his driveway.
Templeton’s driveway was on the east side of the roadway and as he attempted to cross, he was struck by the northbound Cadillac, Covelli said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
