Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Dax helped track down a woman who stabbed someone in Round Lake Tuesday evening, police said.

The Round Lake Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday evening to the 1300 block of Oxford Lane in Round Lake.

The suspect, identified as Arlene Nechistak, 33, allegedly stabbed a person and fled the scene before officers arrived, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy John Forlenza and canine Dax responded. Dax picked up the scent of the offender and tracked for approximately a quarter-mile.

Nechistak was found hiding behind a bush and she was taken into custody without further incident, Covelli said.

Nechistak also had an active arrest warrant for two counts of domestic battery.

The warrant stems from an incident that occurred on October 24 in the 23500 block of North Echo Lake Road in unincorporated Lake Zurich. At that time, Nechistak battered a family member, Covelli said.

The Round Lake Police Department has not released any information on the stabbing and the victim’s condition is not known.

Nechistak remains held in the Lake County jail on a $10,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Charges have not yet been filed against the woman for the stabbing.
