A heavily intoxicated man who randomly exited his home and fired his shotgun was arrested last week in unincorporated McHenry, police said.
Rickey D. Griffin, 45, of the 34600 block of Hiawatha Trail in McHenry, was charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:33 p.m. November 20 to the 34600 block of North Nokomis Trail in unincorporated McHenry for a report of shots fired.
Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that residents were outside in their backyard having a bonfire.
Griffin, who is their neighbor, exited his home armed with a shotgun, Covelli said, adding that the man appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
He fired the shotgun one time into the air and re-entered his home, according to the witnesses. Sheriff’s deputies made contact with Griffin at his residence and took him into custody.
“It is unclear why he exited his home and fired the weapon,” Covelli said. Sheriff’s deputies seized two shotguns from the man’s home.
Griffin was released from custody on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 8.
