A woman died after her broken down vehicle was struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 94 near Deerfield Wednesday evening, police said.
The Illinois State Police and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded around 10:04 p.m. Wednesday to Interstate 94 near mile marker 23.25 in Bannockburn.
State troopers from District 15 arrived and found a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.
A preliminary investigation showed the passenger vehicle was disabled in the center lane of eastbound Interstate 94 south of Duffy Lane for unknown reasons.
The disabled passenger car was struck by a semi-truck that was traveling eastbound, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Omoayena Williams.
The female driver, who was the sole occupant of the passenger vehicle, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She was later pronounced dead, Williams said, adding that there were no other reported injuries.
Lanes 3 and 4 were closed for the traffic crash investigation by around 10:30 p.m. while lanes 1 and 2 remained open for traffic. Lane 2 was later closed around 11:10 p.m.
All lanes were reopened by around 3:05 a.m. after the crash investigation was completed, Williams added.
