Firefighters found a family pet deceased during a house fire in Crystal Lake Friday morning that left residents of the home displaced.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 8:42 a.m. Friday to the 400 block of South Oriole Trail in Crystal Lake for a report of a structure fire.

Two occupants were home at the time of the fire and they were able to escape the residence, according to Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Chris Olsen.

Firefighters arrived within three minutes and found smoke and flames coming from the one-story home.

Crews immediately initiated suppression operations and quickly extinguished the fire, Olsen said.

The structure sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. There were no injuries but one pet was found deceased.

The Crystal Lake Building Department deemed the house uninhabitable. ComEd, Nicor and the Crystal Lake Water Division responded to secure the home’s utilities following the blaze.

Crystal Lake firefighters were assisted by the Algonquin, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, Nunda Rural, Wauconda, West Dundee, and Wonder Lake fire departments.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents with housing arrangements.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by investigators from Crystal Lake and Cary fire departments.
