Detectives are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife as a double murder after they were found with gunshot wounds at their Beach Park home Tuesday evening.
An autopsy showed that Mercedes Rodas, 49, and Carlos Rafael Rodas Perez, 52, both of Beach Park, died as a result of injuries from gunshot wounds, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek. Toxicology results are pending.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department responded around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday for a call of a person down in the 10000 block of West Wadsworth Road in Beach Park.
Sheriff’s deputies located Rodas and Perez in the garage of the residence with gunshot wounds, said Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli.
Sheriff’s deputies attempted life-saving measures, however, they were unsuccessful. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Police and a canine unit searched the area near the scene but did not find anything.
Detectives confidently ruled out the deaths as being a murder-suicide and believe the couple was murdered, Covelli said. No suspects are in custody.
Detectives are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
