A man who threatened a family member with a knife inside their Libertyville home was taken into custody by a SWAT team Saturday morning, police said.

The Libertyville Police Department responded around 8:43 a.m. to a residence in the 100 block of West Lincoln Avenue for a domestic disturbance in progress.

Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze said the offender had threatened a family member with a knife.

The family member who was threatened was able to get away from the residence and call the police.

Responding officers learned that the armed offender was alone inside the residence. Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and attempted to establish communication with the offender.

“After repeated unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the offender, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, Emergency Services Team (NIPAS EST) was activated,” Goze said.

SWAT members arrived and were eventually able to establish communications with the man. The offender was taken into custody without incident shortly before noon.

The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by a Libertyville Fire Department ambulance for an evaluation.

No injuries were sustained by the victim, officers, or the offender, Goze said. Charges have not been filed yet as the incident is still under investigation.
