A driver was cited after an infant was ejected from a rolled over vehicle near Marengo Saturday evening, the sheriff’s office said.
The Marengo Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:40 p.m. Saturday to the area of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Oleson Road in Marengo Township for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a single-vehicle crash involving a 2017 Jeep Renegade.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Aimee Knop said the Jeep was traveling eastbound Kishwaukee Valley Road.
For unknown reasons, the driver, a 20-year-old woman from Wonder Lake, lost control of the vehicle, causing the Jeep to go off the roadway and overturn.
An infant, who was not properly secured in a car seat, was ejected from the Jeep, Knop said.
The infant, the 20-year-old woman, and two adult passengers were all transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
All four victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Knop said. A medical helicopter was initially requested to respond to the scene but was unable to fly due to the weather conditions.
The driver, who was not related to the child, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and for violating the Child Passenger Protection Act by failing to secure the infant.
Knop said that weather is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
