A Waukegan man who allegedly sexually assaulted a child, who is a family member of his, in 2016 in Zion has been arrested, police said.

Carlos A. Alfaro-Sanchez, 31, of the 300 block of George Avenue in Waukegan, was charged with five counts of criminal sexual assault of a family member under 18 and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

A criminal complaint filed in Lake County alleges Alfaro-Sanchez committed acts of sexual penetration with a minor in May 2016.

The assault occurred in Zion and the victim was under the age of 18 and a family member of Alfaro-Sanchez, the complaint said.

The Zion Police Department investigated the case and a Lake County judge signed an arrest warrant for Alfaro-Sanchez on December 1.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team served the arrest warrant on December 3 at Alfaro-Sanchez’s residence in the 300 block of George Avenue in Waukegan.

The man was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County jail where he was ordered held on a $500,000 bond.

Alfaro-Sanchez’s bond was reduced from $500,000 during a court hearing on Wednesday and he has since been released from jail after posting bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 31.
