Authorities have identified a Round Lake Beach woman who was killed last week when her broken down vehicle was struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 94 near Deerfield.
Marizol Davila, 25, of Round Lake Beach, died of multiple injuries in a vehicle crash, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Illinois State Police and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded around 10:04 p.m. December 9 to Interstate 94 near mile marker 23.25 in Bannockburn.
State troopers from District 15 arrived and found a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.
A preliminary investigation showed the passenger vehicle was disabled in the center lane of eastbound Interstate 94 south of Duffy Lane for unknown reasons.
The disabled SUV, driven by Davila, was struck by a semi-truck that was traveling eastbound, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Omoayena Williams.
Davila, who was the sole occupant of the passenger vehicle, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She was later pronounced dead, Williams said, adding that there were no other reported injuries.
Lanes 3 and 4 were closed for the traffic crash investigation by around 10:30 p.m. December 9 while lanes 1 and 2 remained open for traffic. Lane 2 was later closed around 11:10 p.m.
All lanes were reopened by around 3:05 a.m. December 10 after the crash investigation was completed, Williams added.
The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
