A 59-year-old woman was killed after she drove into a median and crashed her car into a tree Tuesday evening in Buffalo Grove, police said.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday to Lake Cook Road near Weidner Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Buffalo Grove Police Department Officer Meghan Hansen, a spokesperson for the department, said a 2017 Chevrolet Spark was traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road.

The Chevrolet, driven by Jeneane Richards, 59, of Arlington Heights, was traveling between Timber Hill Road and Weidner Road when the vehicle struck the median.

The Chevrolet then struck a tree within the median and came to a rest in the westbound lanes of Lake Cook Road west of Weidner Road.

Hansen said that the Chevrolet was the only vehicle involved in the crash and no one else besides the driver was in the car.

Richards did not have any signs of life at the scene, Hansen said.

Paramedics transported Richards to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing but drugs and alcohol are not being considered as contributing factors to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
