A 64-year-old woman is in serious condition after she failed to stop at a stop sign and her car was struck by a dump truck near Marengo Thursday morning.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Marengo Fire Protection District responded around 7:58 a.m. Thursday to Kishwaukee Valley Road and County Line Road in Marengo Township.
Sheriff’s deputies found a two-vehicle crash involving a 1998 Buick Regal and a 2010 Kenworth dump truck.
A preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the Buick, a 64-year-old woman, was traveling northbound on County Line Road, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Creighton.
The Buick was approaching Kishwaukee Valley Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign for unknown reasons, Creighton said.
The Kenworth truck, which was driven by a 40-year-old man and traveling westbound, struck the Buick.
The woman was trapped inside her Buick and had to be extricated by firefighters. Paramedics transported her to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford.
Creighton said the 64-year-old woman is in serious condition. The male driving the truck was not injured.
The drivers were both the sole occupants in their vehicles. The roadway was shut down for approximately three and a half hours for the crash investigation.
Creighton said that alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
