A Waukegan man was charged with shooting a 21-year-old woman in the head in Zion on Friday. The woman is in life-threatening condition and on life support.
Vincent L. Davis, 47, of Waukegan, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a firearm by a felon.
The Zion Police Department and Zion Fire-Rescue Department responded around 7:10 p.m. Friday to the 4200 block of Route 173 for a shooting.
Officers located a 21-year-old woman, who is from Zion, with a single gunshot wound to the head, according to Zion Police Department Lt. Tony Velardi.
Paramedics transported the woman by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she underwent surgery. She was put on life support and is in life-threatening condition.
A preliminary investigation showed an altercation occurred between the victim and Davis. Davis pulled a gun and shot the woman during the altercation, Velardi said.
Officers took Davis into custody early Saturday morning in the 300 block of Oak Street in Waukegan. Police announced charges against the man on Monday.
Velardi told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that detectives are unsure if Davis knew the victim. Investigators are still attempting to learn what led to the argument.
