An Antioch man was killed when his car drove off the roadway and struck a pole in Crystal Lake Monday morning, authorities said.
An autopsy was performed Monday afternoon on John P. Qualmann, 67, of Antioch, according to McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein.
The Crystal Lake Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue Department responded around 7:24 a.m. Monday to Route 31 and Ray Street for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers located a silver 2009 Pontiac Vibe, driven by Qualmann, off the roadway with heavy damage.
Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said that the investigation revealed the Pontiac was traveling southbound on Route 31.
The vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck an electrical pole. Qualmann was pronounced dead at the scene, Kotlowski said.
No one else was inside the Pontiac besides the driver and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A portion of Route 31 was shut down for a brief period while emergency crews worked on the scene. The roadway has since been reopened.
